License

Most everyone knows it is a violation of copyright to give away or sell copies of the copyrighted pattern. There are conflicting ideas about whether it is also a violation to sell finished objects made from the pattern without the copyright holder’s permission (analogous to the fact that purchasing a script at a bookstore does not include permission to perform it publicly).

My current understanding has sale leaning more to the permissible end than forbidden, but to address any confusion, purchases from ReveDreams.com are not just patterns but licenses as well. In perpetuity, the license allows you the purchaser the following:

  • Access to the pattern and any revisions or corrections in perpetuity. If you lose your copy, contact me and I will set you up with another, even years after.
  • Unlimited customer support from me.
  • The right to sell items you make from the pattern, with two conditions:
    • The items must be handmade entirely by you, the purchaser.
    • Photographs used to advertise or describe the item for sale must be your own (which is better practice anyway since your stitching is unlikely to look exactly like mine).

I would also request that credit be given to me for the design, with a link to the shop or pattern page. This may be on the item description page if selling online or on a tag attached to the item if selling in person.

That is in addition, of course, to the right you would unquestionably obtain, of being able to make as many items from the pattern as you like for personal use (including gifts).

This license is for a single person, the purchaser, and is non-transferable. Please respect copyright and do not sell or share ReveDreams patterns with others. If you wish to give a pattern as a gift, please contact me to set it up.

I reserve the right to change this license agreement in the future.
