Description
This pattern is crocheted in a spiral with one length of yarn, including tail and ears. The bobble-stitch-footed body is the same for both. Each animal requires less than 1/4 oz (7 g) worsted weight yarn and an F/5 hook (3.75mm), a few glass or stone beads or pebbles for balance, and a small quantity of fiberfill.
The animals pictured with moss, rocks, and plants in the background are made with six-stranded embroidery floss and a size 4 steel hook (4mm). They are only about 2 inches long, and one skein of floss (8 m/8.7 yd) makes one animal, with plenty left over. If I did it again I would add a chain to each of the hippo’s ears to make them more prominent.
Stitches and techniques assumed: slip knot, chain, slip stitch, single crochet and decrease, skipping stitches, stitching in front loop or back loop only, half double crochet, double crochet, sewing up openings.
Each leg is a 4-dc bobble stitch, which is explained in the pattern.
